Pilgrimage Itinerary
Day 1 Depart from your airport of origin/Quito
Board your overnight transatlantic flights from your home town. Meals are served on board. Upon arrival in Quito, you'll be greeted by a tour guide and/or driver who will then check you into your hotel. Guide will be with your throughout your stay.
Day 2 Quito
After an early breakfast in your hotel we will have a welcome briefing before leaving at 9 for our walking in Spanish Colonial Quito. We will explain the initial 16th Century founding of the city by the Spanish Conquistador Benalcazar and the Plazas surrounding this history. We will then visit the 17th Century Archbishops Palace. We will then proceed with a tour of the Monastery of Our Lady of Good Success which will include the upper choir loft where Our Lady appeared to Mother Mariana, the incorrupt bodies of the founding Mothers (Venerable Mother Mariana), a question and answer session with the Madre Abadessa, Rosary in front of the Miraculous image and Mass over the tomb of Mother Mariana. In the afternoon, we will continue our walking tour to San Francisco Monastery and the Carmelite Monastery (St. Mariana de Jesus Flores). We end the day with our group dinner.
Day 3 Quito
After breakfast we depart on a walking tour of “in the footsteps of La Dolorosa”. We will first visit the Churh of El Sagrario and then the 17th Century Jesuit complex of La Compania listed in the guide books as the most impressive in Latin America. We will visit the actual chapel of the miracle for a Rosary and time for reflextion. After free time for lunch, we depart by our private bus to north Quito for Mass in front of the original miraculous image of La Dolorosa at the St. Gabriel boys school at 3:30. We end our day with the group dinner.
Day 4 Quito/Hacienda Chorlavi
Extra early wake up to check out of your hotel and depart on the bus at 8:00 a.m. Our first stop is the Basilica with its Chapel of the preserved hearts of Garcia Moreno at Archbishop Checa y Barba. We will have our Mass there at 10:00. Then we will visit the church and crypt of Saint Hermamo Miguel. On the way out of Quito we will stop at the Spanish Colonial Village of Guapulo to visit the Fanciscan Monastery and the momument for the debarkation of the Spanish Conquistador Francisco Orrellana who departed there on his discovery of the Amazon. We then visit Ecuador´s most popular Marian shrine at El Quinche. We will also visit the middle of the world monument on the equator before arriving at Hacienda Chorlavi for check ins and our group dinner.
Day 5 Hacienda Chorlavi/Las Lajas, Colombia
After an early 7:00 a.m. Mass at the Hacienda Chapel, we will have our breakfast and then depart at 9:00 for Colombia. We will tour Las Lajas and the miraculous image with a rosary in front of the image. We will then depart with a box lunch on board and arrive at La Paz in Ecuador in the late afternoon. After a brief visit to the miraculous image there, we return to the Hacienda around 7.
Day 6 Hacienda Chorlavi and Quito
After a morning Mass at 7:30, we enjoy a leisurely breakfast at the Hacienda before checking out of our rooms and departing by bus the artisan village of San Antonio for Catholic statue/gifts. We then will visit the famous indigenous market in the village of Otovalo. Upon our return to Quito, we then visit the top of mountain Panecillo and the Virgin of the Apocalypse with its spectacular view of Colonial Quito. We then check back into our Quito hotels and end our day with our group meal.
Day 7 Quito
After an early morning Mass in a Private chapel at 7:00 and breakfast shortly after, we depart for our walking tour to Plaza Grande for “in the footsteps of Garcia Moreno” where we will learn of the life of this great Catholic President of Ecuador and retrace his last day on earth. The tour will be given by the Ecuadorian historian and author Dr. Francisco Salazar. We will visit the Monastery of Santo Domingo (where he heard his last Mass), the Presidential Palace (assassination site), the Cathedra (where he expired), and the Monastery of Santa Catalina where his body was secretly hidden for 100 years. We will end the day with our farewell dinner.
